God created us to relate; consequently, we all need each other, all the time. We all feel downcast and depressed at times, some of us more than others. When we do, we find hope by clinging to God and seeking to share God’s love with those who are hurting, asking nothing in return. Sympathy, caring about another’s suffering, and empathy, feeling another’s suffering, are steps on the right direction, but it’s compassion, seeking to relieve another’s suffering, that makes a lasting difference.
